What is a bearing isolator?

A bearing isolator is a bearing protection device designed to help keep lubricant in and contaminants out through a controlled internal path.

Non-contact labyrinth principle

In a typical non-contact design, rotor and stator form a tortuous path without continuous dynamic contact. The exact geometry, clearances and secondary seals depend on the machine and operating conditions.

What it can protect against

Depending on the selected design, bearing isolators can help manage oil splash, airborne dust, water spray and general industrial contamination. Performance must be confirmed for the specified orientation and environment.

Application limits matter.Flooded service, pressure, oil mist, vertical arrangements, severe washdown and significant axial movement require dedicated engineering review. A standard horizontal labyrinth should not be assumed suitable.

Why technical selection is required

Shaft diameter, housing bore and axial space define the installation envelope, but they do not fully describe compatibility. Speed, temperature, lubrication, materials, runout and machine geometry must also be checked.
